Presenters:

Anthony Gigliotti, Esq., Principal Counsel, Attorney Grievance Committee, Appellate Division Fourth Department, Fifth Judicial District.  Mr. Gigliotti received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in 1968 and in 1971 earned his law degree from St. John’s University. He began his career as a Staff Attorney for Onondaga Neighborhood Legal Services, and in 1976 became its Executive Director for 10 years, expanding its services to four additional counties and changing its name to Legal Services of Central New York. During that time Mr. Gigliotti advocated for and assisted in the authorship of Real Property Law §235-b which codified New York’s Implied Warranty of Habitability. As a member of the NYSBA’s Committee on Legal Aid, Mr. Gigliotti helped launch the first Pro Bono Service Awards, now awarded annually by the NYSBA President. Mr. Gigliotti was the founding director of Onondaga County’s Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, and now serves on its board of directors. Since 1996, Mr. Gigliotti began serving in his current role as Principal Counsel for the Attorney Grievance Committee, Appellate Division Fourth Department, Fifth Judicial District. In 2001, he was appointed as a member of the New York State Lawyer Assistance Trust by Chief Justice Judith S. Kaye. He is Chairperson of the Onondaga County Lawyers’ Assistance Steering Committee and has lectured extensively on ethics, initially as an adjunct professor of law at Syracuse University College of Law and at numerous bar sponsored continuing legal education programs.

Mary Gasparini, Esq., Principal Counsel, Attorney Grievance Committee, Fifth Judicial District. Ms. Gasparini is a native of Central New York, and a graduate of the George C. Taylor College of Law at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She began her legal career at the Legal Aid Society – Criminal Defense Division in New York City. She returned to Syracuse for a position with the Hiscock Legal Society. From there she served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Syracuse and subsequently moved into private practice. Mary returned to public service in 2007 when she joined the Attorney Grievance Committee where she currently serves as principal counsel. Mary is a frequent lecturer at the Syracuse University College of Law and presenter at various CLE programs.

Robert A. Barrer, Esq. Barclay Damon Law Firm. Mr. Barrer is the firm’s chief ethics officer and risk management partner and is responsible for all ethics, conflicts, loss prevention, and continuing legal education activities at the firm. He counsels firm attorneys and provides analysis and advice on ethical questions involving conflicts of interest, privileges, and legal issues implicating the Rules of Professional Conduct. He also supervises the firm’s CLE programs and lectures on a wide variety of ethics and practice management topics. In addition, Mr. Barrer is responsible for designing and implementing programs and policies to improve the provision of high quality legal services for firm clients. A 1979 graduate of Skidmore College, Mr. Barrer received his Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, in 1982 from the Syracuse University College of Law.
