This CLE seminar offers an overview of federal and state fair housing laws with special focus on Familial Status; Disability and Reasonable Accommodations & Modifications; Protections for Domestic Violence Survivors; Barriers for Justice-Involved Individuals; Source of Income Protections; and Fair Housing in Eviction Context. Presenters:

Conor Kirchner, Esq. has worked at CNY Fair Housing in a variety of roles since 2011. He began as a part-time undercover tester, documenting the rental and lending practices of housing providers and banks, before being hired full time to conduct intakes, fair housing investigations, and then testing coordination. Conor took over his current role as Staff Attorney at CNY Fair Housing in 2013 and has litigated a wide variety of fair housing cases before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts. Prior to his time at CNY Fair Housing, he worked as a Constituent Services Representative for Congressman Daniel Maffei, assisting constituents with navigating the Federal departments and agencies and by advocating on their behalf. Conor received his law degree at Syracuse University College of Law and obtained his bachelor’s degree at Syracuse University as well; he is barred in New York. He previously served as Chair of the Board of Directors for Hiscock Legal Aid Society in Syracuse. Conor resides in his hometown of Liverpool, New York with his wife, JoBeth, and is perhaps best known by others as the most dedicated SU basketball fanatic in their lives.

Casey Weissman-Vermeulen, Esq. has worked in fair housing enforcement throughout his legal career. He joined CNY Fair Housing as a staff attorney in 2019. Previously, he was a trial attorney in the Fair Housing Enforcement Division of the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC. Casey received his law degree and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University. Casey is barred in New York.  He is a Syracuse native and lives in the Westcott neighborhood with his wife and children.
